On April 8th and 9th, the Lawrence Middle School Model U.N. Club competed in the 6th Annual Middle School Model U.N. Conference held at the Grand Hyatt Hotel in New York City. Members of the 8th Grade Model U.N. club represented the countries of Turkey and Djibouti in several U.N. committees such as the General Assembly, World Health Organization, and the Historic Security Council and had great success in public speaking, debating, negotiating, and writing resolutions to help tackle many global issues facing our world today such as multinational terrorist groups, environmental refugees, women and development, and global epidemic outbreak alert and response. The Club competed with over 60 schools and 1,400 students. Maciej Leleniewski and Jake Verga took home a best position paper award on "Religious Intolerance" for the Human Rights Council and Sujay Shetty and Matthew Asir won an honorable mention for best delegation on "Multilingual and Heritage Education" for the UN Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization. Accompanying the students on the 2 day conference were LMS Social Studies teachers Kristine Benson, Brendan Cartlidge, and Dan Christel, the Model U.N. Club Advisor, as well as LMS Librarian Eileen Cramer.
This is a blog for students, parents and community members of Lawrence Township to keep you informed about events and news that happen around the district. This site is an additional way for parents and students to communicate with the Office of Instructional Services and each other.
